The Story of CES in Kenya

Community Education Services (CES) Canada

Transforming an Unacceptable Reality

CES is the result of friendship and collaboration between two groups of people, in Kenya and in Canada. They saw how many bright young people in Kenya were denied a chance for an education due to family poverty – and did something about it. Since our start in 2003, Community Education Services has touched thousands of lives – students, parents, educators and volunteers.

Our work includes:

  • Scholarships for secondary school students who are bright, ambitious but come whose parents struggle with paying school fees

  • Scholarships for university and college – many of our students have gone on to careers in medicine, education, agriculture and science

  • Support for high schools – clean drinking water, new classrooms, hydro and food prep facilities

  • Leadership training so our students can achieve their potential and help their communities

  • Education about health, nutrition, preventing parasitic and communicable diseases, IT computer skills and practical aspects of moving towards employability and adulthood

Our students have the world's biggest smiles

OUR FOCUS

Community Education Services (CES) Canada

There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up

EDUCATION

Education is a fundamental right – but there are many barriers for students from poor families. We help lift some of those barriers.

WATER

Only one in 25 Kenyans has access to clean water. CES helps by digging wells and teaching good hygiene practices, to create stronger schools.

HEALTH

Healthy learners achieve more. Our focus on education and prevention of diseases like malaria and jiggers helps keep them in the classroom.

NUTRITION

Many students fail to thrive and are unable to learn, because of food deprivation or a poor diet. We support food production at schools and healthy meals each day.

The reality of students unable to pay school fees is a major challenge in rural western Kenya. There are few charities that have supported our young people in their secondary education to the extent CES has. Partnership and design mixed with love and compassion have freed many Kenyan families from acute poverty.
