CES Mandate
The goals of Community Education Services (CES) Canada as stated in its constitution are:
- to reduce illiteracy through increased access to education and information technology;
- to alleviate poverty; and,
- to achieve an improved standard of living for youth living in Kenya.
CES Canada intends to achieve these objects by raising funds in Canada to support programs presently being operated and managed by CES Kenya, a well-established non-governmental organization in Kenya. CES Kenya is involved in providing scholarships for secondary school students who have been orphaned by the HIV/Aids pandemic and who currently do not have the financial resources to attend school.
CES Canada works in partnership with CES Kenya to accomplish the *following:
- The provision of financial and human resources to schools in the Kakamega district of Kenya to provide orphaned children of a secondary school age with:
- scholarships to pay the annual fees for a public secondary school education
- one meal each day as well as vitamin supplements;
- school uniforms, textbooks and other school supplies; and
- basic medical services to students.
- The provision of financial resources and human resources by experienced education professionals to improve the education curriculum of schools in the Kakamega district of Kenya. There is a focus on teaching sound pedagogical methods of infusing and integrating these topics into the existing school curriculum.
This involves developing professional development learning and educational materials on:- healthy living;
- practicing safe sex; and
- preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.
- Improving educational standards of schools in the Kakamega district of Kenya by providing financial resources and advisory assistance to:
- improve information technology and textbook resources in schools;
- improve the physical infrastructure of schools; and
- upgrade classroom facilities.
The programs provided by CES Kenya and supported by CES Canada are described in Project ‘PREPARE’ – Project to Reduce Poverty and Provide Access to Rural Education”. The beneficiaries are disadvantaged secondary school aged youth living in the Kakamega district of Kenya who are the recipients of the assistance provided by the programs operated by CES Kenya. As the infrastructure and financial resources of the Organization increase, it intends to provide similar programs to other school districts in Kenya.
