Notes:

Musaga SS is located 30 km north of Kakamega.  The community has had a primary school in the area for the last 50 years.  Musaga SS was envisioned as a place where students could attend school and not have to travel so far.  This was especially important for boys since the closest school within walking distance is CES Kenya sponsored school, Namirama SS for Girls.  There is no school as such.  Classes gather underneath trees and share space with the local Friends Church as well as the Musaga PS.

In June 2011 Sandy Guthrie and Karen Dahl of Thunder Bay Canada took part in a ground breaking ceremony.  From Sandy’s memoires…

“It was a great day…from meeting with the board of directors in the church, digging the ground where the school is going to go, to planting a tree in our name, and then being served a very luxurious lunch.

The student performances were amazing. Sheilah, a CES student, recited a poem that was fantastic. You could hear a pin drop while she spoke. She has a special place in my heart. and I will help her any way I can. It was a whole day affair, and I was honoured to be part of the ground breaking.  The memory of our dear friend Deanna O’Neill will live on at Musaga SS.”

  • One cannot witness the plight of children who have lost their parents due to Aids and not be angry at such a tragedy.
