Notes:
St. Patrick’s Ikonyero SS is located in Lurambi District approximately thirty minutes drive west from Kakamega. This is one of the closest schools to the CES Kenya headquarters. It is a well run school where each student is mindful of being courteous and exhibiting respect for all visitors. There is a square outside the main office and in the centre stands the Kenyan flag. New buildings and classrooms vave been recently constructed. This school clearly is a centre of excellence and CES sponsored students are among the very best of high achievers.
The short story “West of the Rising Sun” is based on the life of Pendo Lugalia, Form 4 Prefect and top achiever (2011) at St. Patrick’s Ikonyero.
St. Patrick’s Ikonyero has ten students sponsored through the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board in Ontario Canada. Summer School students have sponsored Ikonyero School for the past three years through their generous donations and heart for their Kenyan peers. They responded to an appeal to support students orphaned by the HIV/Aids pandemic.
