CES Canada, a charity that supports numerous communities in western Kenya, congratulates CES Kenya Chairman Ben Udoto and CES Kenya Patron Malik Khaemba for their outstanding service and dedication to the youth of Kenya.

Their vision to eradicate poverty and provide hope through education began in 2003. Together they formed a partnership with friends in Canada that has improved the lives of thousands of youth in rural western Kenya. CES has awarded nearly 4,000 education scholarships to needy students.

Their focus on education, community health, clean water and agriculture has helped to raise economic growth and create employment opportunities for youth in 45 schools across Kenya. The impact of building a new Musaga Secondary School, providing ten clean water projects, and creating three secondary school farm projects has received praise from community leaders. 140 elementary schools (60,000 children) have received medical treatments for worms and jiggers. Other initiatives, too numerous to mention are on the record –– each with its own story and positive outcome.

Ben Udoto had a distinguished career in secondary and post-secondary education, retiring as principal of Kaimosi Teachers College. Malik Khaemba enjoyed a fulfilling career as a diplomat, with foreign service postings to the U.A.E, Belgium and Canada. Friends since their youth, they have given their retirement years to volunteer service on behalf of the youth in the town of Kakamega and surrounding counties.

Mashujaa Day, also known as Heroes' Day, is a national day in Kenya, which is observed on 20 October as a public holiday to collectively honour all those who played key roles in the struggle for Kenya's independence or positively contributed in the post independence Kenya.

It is a privilege and an honour for friends and associates of CES Canada and CES Ken-ya, to recognize these two outstanding Kenyans. On this 2020 Mashujaa Day, we con-gratulate them for their extraordinary achievements and ongoing commitment to com-munity service. May their legacy read in part: “They lived their lives by lifting others up; in giving, they found their greatest reward.”
